What To Expect

Montana de Oro State Park

We will hike up through chapparal communities with manzanita and ceanothus and see views of the ocean bluffs to the North. If visitors would like to learn plants, I will point out new plants as we encounter them. The loop trail summits over a view of the Coon Creek river Canyon.

We will take the switchbacks down to the Coon Creek canyon and explore the riparian (creek) species. In some seasons there are thimbleberry and strawberry here! The Bishop pine forest on the south side is new, it burned about 20 years ago. We will take the creek trail back to the trailhead with the option to explore more of the park.
